Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United just seven months following leading derogatory songs targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a contract with the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year spell at Elland Road was ended through agreement this past summer.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead abusive songs regarding Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Currently, the one-cap England player will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift the team he loves out of the drop zone.

Past History Between Bamford & the Manager

Both men had history prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

All seems has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack while Bamford hoping to resurrect his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Playing Challenges

Bamford featured in 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
